The Winckley Square Christmas tree was knocked down on Friday evening (November 26), impacting the festivities planned today in Georgian Square.

A spokesperson for the Friends of Winckley Square said: “It is too dangerous to erect the snow globe and refreshment kiosk, but for now the plan is that the reindeer, sled and elves will still be there. . “

Next week’s event, which takes place on Saturday, December 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., is scheduled to take place and will feature giant penguins and a ukulele band. The following weekend, Winckley Square will host a Christmas concert.

Earlier in the week, the Met Office issued a weather warning for Storm Arwen to bring high winds from 9 p.m. Friday to 6 p.m. today.

Lancashire County Council said its roads team was well prepared to respond to any impact resulting from the storm.
