The strike involves a nationwide pay dispute over the 2021/2022 staff pay award, which the University of Central Lancashire has implemented, resulting in an increase of between 3.6% and 1.5% for most university staff .

Salary structures and terms of employment at universities are collectively negotiated and agreed upon, but the UCU did not accept the recommendation and called on its members to go on strike.

UCLan told students to assume education would continue as planned on strike dates, with strikers not required to declare their intent to strike in advance.

The university has encouraged academic staff to notify remote and on-campus students in advance if they are not attending classes as a courtesy.

UCLan advised students to continue to check their emails for updates from the School Director, Course Leaders and student communications.

Students who wish to ask the university questions about the strike should address them first to their principal.
