Taiwan Indigeneity event set to take place on UCLan campus in Preston

The Northern Institute of Taiwan Studies is preparing to hold its last cultural event of the year.


A public lecture and film screening with discussion will be held during the Taiwan Indigenity Event on Friday, October 21.

The UCLan Spotlight Taiwan Project is supported by the Spotlight Taiwan Project of the Ministry of Culture and the Institute for Asia-Pacific Studies (ISAP).

11am-12pm Adelphi building, ABLT5

Dr. Chi-fang Chao from the University of Roehampton will deliver a lecture titled Representation and Resistance: Staging Indigenous Bodies in Postcolonial Taiwan.

1:30-5:00 p.m. Harrington Building, Amphitheater

A screening of the ethnographic documentary film Voices of Orchid Island by Dr. Hu Tai-li will be screened for the first two hours.

This will be followed by a question-and-answer and commentary session with Professor Scott Simon of the University of Ottawa starting at 3:30 p.m.

The lecture and Q&A session will be delivered in person and via live stream, while the film will only be screened onsite.
