Simon Cowell launches TikTok talent show for music producers

Join StemDrop, the TikTok music challenge where you can get free remix stems and record your own track featuring top songwriters and support from Universal Music and Samsung.

Talent show king Simon Cowell noticed the success potential of ICT Tac. StemDrop is a new project that gives music creators on TikTok the chance to remix a brand new song and grab the attention of global music companies. The ICT Tac The #StepDrop001 hashtag suggests this will be the first in a series of remix contests organized by TikTok and Samsung.

What exactly is StemDrop? Songwriters Ali Payami, Max Martin and Savan Kotecha dropped 60 seconds of new single “Red Lights,” and TikTok users can use the stems to create their own remix. ICT Tac described the project as a “revolutionary new evolution in global music collaboration”.

In music production, stems are different elements of a song, like a vocal part or piano Track. Growers can also download the stems for “Red Lights” to use in their JACKDAW of choice for the remix.

Samsung’s big contribution is a “StemDrop Mixer”, a filter that allows you to build the track in real time, bringing a little music production elements in the mixture. Creators can start using harmonies, effects, and melodies to play with the elements of the song to make their contribution totally unique.

Get the stems from the StemDrop Blender Where Stem site. It’s a fun way to get involved with the music community on TikTok, in a slightly more organized way than the usual organic chaos on the platform. You can submit as many videos as you want, before December 12th.

Given the pedigree involved, the bones of the song should be all rights a banger – Max Martin Product Taylor Swift“Shake it Off,” wrote Savan Kotecha for Ariana Grande; Ali Payami wrote for The Weeknd.

StemDrop’s theme is collaboration and involves big names in music alongside songwriters, including Republic Records, Universal Music and Cowell’s Syco Entertainment.

Participants can follow new content daily on the TikTok channel @StemDrop, with content from “Global Ambassadors” Arti Elkins, Astrid S and Your Boy Moyo.

Research has shown that when music on TikTok makes the buzz, streams on YouTube and Spotify are boosted, and in some cases A&R labels are called out. Hence the majors’ involvement in StemDrop and Cowell’s interest in the platform as a talent pool. TikTok has been touted as the best place to find new music, especially by Gen Z.
