The organizers are keen to speak to residents with experience in singing in choirs or other groups who would like to experience the drama of Carmen.

But hopes do not need previous singing experience, as the organizers will provide support.

Preston Opera is also looking for people interested in helping the production team, working on set construction or costumes.

Preston Opera was designed by local musician Frank Salter, who brought together a small group of singers with a common interest in opera in 1965.

Until then, the opera house in Preston had been reserved for visiting groups of tourists.

The first productions were staged at the Preston Playhouse, and in 1976 Preston Opera moved to the Charter Theater, where it has performed annually since.
