Preston Grasshoppers £50,000 bar renovation complete

The bar has a new glazed entrance, designed to make it more accessible and welcoming

A £50,000 refurbishment of the Preston Grasshoppers clubhouse bar has been completed.


The old Wainwright Bar has been completely redesigned and renamed The 1869 Bar, named after the year the rugby union club was founded.

The Lightfoot Lane Rugby Club project aimed to create a modern, stylish venue that would appeal to people living locally as well as Hoppers club members and their visitors.

Bar 1869, which is now open, features a new glass-enclosed entrance, comfortable seating, an updated color scheme and lighting, and a distinctive bar area.

The Frank Whittle Partnership (FWP) design team worked on the project at the Fulwood-based rugby club.

David Simmons, associate partner and interior designer at FWP, headquartered in Preston, said: “Our mission was to provide a design that would encourage greater use of the bar, both by members and the public. local, and not just on match days. but throughout the week.

“The project represents a major investment by the rugby club and will play a key role in its strategy to extend the use of its clubhouse.

“As a Preston-based company, we were delighted to be appointed to this project for Hoppers, one of the city’s most beloved sporting venues and a club with a fantastic history and place in the community. “
