LIVE BLOG: #5 Notre Dame at #2 Ohio State

Notre Dame is set to kick off against Ohio State in the biggest game of opening weekend. Irish Breakdown will be providing live analysis and giving the latest updates on this blog.

10:13 p.m. – After the corner of the slot Tariq Bracy went down with an injury, the Buckeyes went right after his substitution, and QB C.J. Stroud hit Xavier Johnson for a 24-yard touchdown to give Ohio State a 14-10 lead.

9:41 p.m. – Both teams traded punts to start the half. Notre Dame forced a three and the Irish offense entered OSU territory through a pair of penalties, but the Notre Dame line couldn’t give Buchner time to pitch and the Irish were forced to throw.

9:30 p.m. – Notre Dame leads 10-7 at halftime.

8:38 p.m. – Notre Dame takes a 10-7 lead with a 1-yard touchdown run from Audric Esteem. The big practice play came on a 3-2 with Notre Dame in their own territory. The Irish were in a 12-person look with twins on the left and two tight ends on the right. OSU was in a Cover 0 look and loaded the box, so Tyler Bucher checked the call, waved Michael Mayer to the left, which softened the OSU. The Irish then executed a wide fade to Matt Salerno who was caught for a 32-yard game. The Irish also converted a 3rd try in the red zone with a tunnel screen to Mayer.

8:08 p.m.Cam Hart takes a wrong angle on a stopping route to Emeka Egbuka, allowing the Ohio State wideout to go out for a 31-yard touchdown reception. Hart was also called for pass interference on the play. Ohio State goes up 7-3.

7:55 p.m. – The Irish defense forces a punt on Ohio State’s first series. After a personal foul Jayson Ademilathe sacked Irish C.J. Stroud then forced an incompletion and a short win after a scrambled third down. Notre Dame mixed up its looks, bringing in linebackers on first down and dropping eight on third down.

7:49 p.m. – Notre Dame takes over with a 33-yard field goal Blake Group. A 54-yard pass on an RPO of Tyler Bucher at Laurent Styles was coupled with a personal foul to place Notre Dame in the red zone, but the Irish ground attack could not get any movement and Notre Dame settled for a field goal.

7:41 p.m. – Notre Dame called tails and lost the toss. Ohio State elected to postpone so Notre Dame would start with the ball.

7:28 p.m. – Jarrett Patterson is listed as a game time decision.
