Instagram will bring back the timeline newsfeed in 2022

For years, Instagram users have been accustomed to scrolling through their feed based on the company’s algorithms and suggestions. Many wanted to go back to a time when their food was listed in chronological order. Fortunately, Instagram heard them loud and clear.

Five years after setting up a more algorithm-based social feed, Instagram will bring back “a version” of its timeline feed in 2022. At a Senate hearing on Instagram and Teen Safety, Adam Mosseri reported expressed that the company wishes to give “people the option of having a chronological feed,” as reported by Engaged.

Instagram CEO Mosseri said during the hearing that “We are currently working on a version of a timeline feed that we hope to launch next year. Mosseri said the feature film had been in the works “for months.” At the time, Mosseri hadn’t specified what the timeline would look like, the details of its use, or the exact date of its release. All that has been said is that the company is “aiming for the first quarter of next year”.

Following this, Instagram confirmed that its plans were in motion via a post on Twitter. According to the post, the company’s plans to introduce a chronological feed will primarily give users the “option to view posts from people you follow in chronological order.”

Instagram is also said to add a “favorites” feed, which pulls posts from certain friends higher up in the feed. The two new flows will be optional for the user.
