The AHA’s Institute for Diversity and Health Equity held its latest Region 6 Health Equity Innovation Summit on Monday, which includes members from North Dakota, South Dakota South, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Missouri and Minnesota. Attendees included C-suite hospital leaders, community members and patient advocates who explored regional challenges and co-developed potential solutions to accelerate action to advance equity in health. The session was designed to be interactive and inclusive of various perspectives.

A fireside chat was moderated by Leon Caldwell, IFDHE Senior Director, Health Equity Strategies and Innovation. The session touched on how the country’s health systems and communities are facing unprecedented public health and health care challenges, and how to use this historic time for social innovation to advance the health equity. Other speakers in the discussion included Michael B. Jackson, vice president and global head of industries at DocuSign; Rahul Koranne, MD, president and CEO of the Minnesota Hospital Association; and Taj Mustapha, MD, associate professor of internal medicine and pediatrics, and director of equity strategy at M Health Fairview.
