A flood alert has been issued for Preston and South Ribble as heavy rains raise river levels.
Areas at greatest risk for flooding are the lower Ribble River from Samlesbury and the River Darwen from Darwen, including Preston, Walton-le-Dale and Higher Walton.
The alert has been in place since 5 p.m. today (Thursday, December 30), with river levels expected to remain high overnight.

The government’s Check For Flooding service says, “We are monitoring rainfall and river levels and checking rivers for blockages in the area.
“Avoid using low trails and bridges near local waterways, and don’t attempt to walk or drive in flood waters. “
