Fishergate closed as eight fire engines battle Preston city center blaze

Fishergate is closed as firefighters battle a blaze in Preston city centre.


Eight fire engines and two aerial ladder platforms are at a fire in an abandoned building in Mount Street.

Fishergate is closed at the junction with Chapel Street to the Fishergate Shopping Centre.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service tweeted from the scene at 9.30pm today (Friday May 13).

Local resident and Twitter user @PrestonYoda1 shared a video of smoke rising from the stage.

They tweeted, “It’s a fire at St. Joseph’s Orphanage. Young people are allowed to throw masonry out of windows every day. The owners have never been prosecuted. The police promise to act, but nothing is done.
