Community Gateway Association provides update on demolition of Savick stores

In 2017, following extensive consultation with local residents, the Community Gateway Association began to develop the area around the Savick stores as part of a major regeneration project.

The first phase included the development of six new homes on the site of the old Savick pub.

In August 2020, a building permit was subsequently granted for phase 2 of the program to redevelop the cottages and shops on West Park Avenue into modern family homes.

Existing properties were outdated, unsightly, and often a magnet for anti-social behavior, resulting in half the stores being abandoned.

At the end of 2020, authorization to redevelop the neighboring Ainsdale House site in a third phase was also granted.

These last two phases involve a significant investment of around £ 4million and will take around 12-18 months.

When completed, the development will offer a total of 20 two-bed, four-to-three-bed and one four-bed property.

In addition, as a direct result of feedback from residents, CGA has also proposed to incorporate a brand new retail unit that will be used as a convenience store, as well as a specially designed modern library, which will benefit the community for years to come. future.

Phase 2 is now underway with I&R demolition work on the site starting this week, under the supervision of local councilors Phil Crowe and Jennifer Mein and staff from the Housing Association.

I&R is working with CGA’s own branch Preston Vocational Center to recycle the site’s copper, wood and electrical wiring so that it can be reused in PVC’s vocational youth training center.
