Australia vs India T20 live stream, scores, updates, highlights, video, blog, result, how to watch, Ellyse Perry

Tahlia McGrath gave up and then headed Australia to a relentless victory over India, but the decisive game may well be remembered for throwing a ball contender of the century.

McGrath was the cool head Australia needed as they hit an unbeaten 42 in their second T20 international as Australia won the second of two T20s and clinched a thrilling multi-format series victory over India .

With just 119 races to win on the Gold Coast, Alyssa Healy was the first to fall as Australia began their pursuit, but there was absolutely nothing the veteran wicket keeper could have done to stop it. Shikha Pandey hit the court a short distance and well outside the court, but somehow the ball came back to beat the inside edge and take over the stump.

Healy walked away, shaking her head, like the rest of the cricket world.

Despite the modest target, Australia’s lawsuit faltered following the sackings of Meg Lanning, Ashleigh Gardner and Ellyse Perry.

It was danger time when Beth Mooney was stumped on 34, but McGrath was pushing to get her side home by four wickets.

Any hopes India had of replicating the fireworks from their last hit were extinguished by Tayla Vlaeminck, who claimed the wickets of forerunners Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma in the first three overs.

This set the tone for a completely different bowling performance from Australia after having little response for India’s firepower during Thursday night’s washed-out opening.

Harmanpreet Kaur hit a quick 28-shot as the wickets continued to fall around her, before she was blocked by Alyssa Healy.

Then it was the spinners’ turn to suffocate the visitors. Sophie Molineux was pretty much unplayable as she claimed two wickets for just 11 races, while Ashleigh Gardner made 12 races for her one wicket.

At 8/78 India got completely lost and it was only thanks to a late appearance of Pooja Vastrakar (37 steps out) that the visitor reached a ton.

But, as they have all the series, India pushed Australia to the end.

BAL OF THE CENTURY?

Alyssa Healy came across one of the most extraordinary deliveries. With only his second delivery, Shikha Pandey hit the field a short distance and well on the outside, but somehow the ball came back to beat the inside edge and take over the stump. How Pandey got such a move will be long and thoughtful, but the delivery will certainly be some of the best ever in the game.

PERRY’S LEGACY

Ellyse Perry became the most capped Australian player in all formats with 252, surpassing Alex Blackwell’s 251. Blackwell paid tribute to Perry who incredibly also played 18 international football games for the Matildas early in his career as an international doubles.

“Your contribution has been huge for Australian sport, but in particular the advancements in women’s sport have made great strides while you were on the pitch,” said Blackwell.

“Your legacy will be lasting. “

PRESSURE RESPONSE

Australia showed the kind of response that saw them win the T20 World Cup 18 months ago. After being challenged by India every series, then seeing their bowlers hitting every corner of the park during the washed-out T20 opener on Thursday night, Australia responded by getting past the pressure. The match was practically won at the end of India’s power play with an almost flawless bowling and lineout performance from the home side.
