Ashton-on-Ribble hedgehog and bird rescue call for supplies

An animal rescue from Preston running out of canned pet food has put out a public call for supplies.


Nonprofits Preston Hedgehog Rescue Ltd and Preston Bird Rescue have requested donations of canned fish-free dog and cat food with all brands acceptable except Tesco.

Led by Kirsty, Mark and a small army of volunteers, the rescue is helping local hedgehog populations and trying to stop the extinction of native British species.

Their goals include rescue, rehabilitation, release and education, and they offer advice to residents and transportation for the ailing hedgehogs.

The shrine also accepts donations of the following items:

  • Newspapers
  • Old towels
  • Washcloths
  • Blankets
  • Preserved puppy / kitten / cat / dog meat in jelly (no fish) and small biscuits (Tesco Kitten preferably)
  • Old nail polish in bright colors
  • Small soup plates / ramekins
  • Puppy pads
  • Kitchen roll
  • Old cages and hutches for hamsters / rabbits / guinea pigs.

Rescue also calls for medical equipment. They can accept new and sterile items (even if they are past their expiration date). Items include needles, syringes and bandages.
